The morning routine is my favorite part of the day. I’m working full time, so my mornings are for me. the time where I can accomplish the most things and work on my side hustle (this blog. In other words, I don’t have the time to waste my time.
The way my morning goes usually sets my mood for the rest of the day; therefore I want to make sure that my mornings are exactly the way I want them to be. peaceful, cozy, and most of all, productive.
Over the months I have developed a morning routine. It has helped me accomplish so many things during that small part of the day. I used to be a night owl, and I thought that I was the most productive at night. But… Girl, mornings are much, much better for productivity. I know this now!
Why You Need A Morning Routine
“Marilyn, why in the world would I EVER have a morning routine?. I could sleep for two more hours instead? Are you fucking insane? “
No, I’m not insane. Or not completely, at least.
Morning is the time of the day over which you get the most control over. It’s like a fresh start every day, and that, my friend, is precious.
So the way I see it, you can either start your day in a rush, and hurry to do the minimum that you have to do in 45 minutes, and leave for work stressed and almost late.
Or, you can wake up two hours sooner, take time for yourself, start your day in peace and ready to handle that day like a boss and accomplish all you have to do.
I opted for the “two hours sooner” plan.
As I said sooner, the way you start your day sets your mood for the rest of the day. Having a morning routine that allows you to be productive. leaves you on an “it’s a productive day” note. making you want to keep being productive all day long.
It might sound like nothing, but that feeling of having done something productive in the morning is super empowering and will keep you motivated throughout the day.
Another reason why having a morning routine is so important is because it allows you to manage your emotions and lets you choose to start your day positively. During your morning routine, you can choose to do something you really like, and that makes you feel good.
I mean, what could be better than starting your day with positivity and motivation?
In other words, having a morning routine allows you to control your day instead of undergo it and deal with what happens as it comes. Drive your day, or your day will drive you.
1. OPEN THE BLINDS & AIR YOUR ROOM
Let some fresh air in first thing in the morning! Yes, even when it’s cold outside.
Not only is it important to air your room every day for reasons of hygiene, but feeling some fresh air on your face as soon as you wake up will help you get out of this sleepy state faster.
2. MAKE YOUR BED
No, I’m not kidding. Making your bed in the morning has been proved to make you feel like you’ve accomplished something already,
even if it’s small, and that motivates you to accomplish other things.
“If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed. If you make your bed every morning, you will have accomplished the first task of the day.
It will give you a small sense of pride, and it will encourage you to do another task, and another, and another. And by the end of the day that one task completed will have turned into many tasks completed.” –Navy Seal William H. McCraven
3. WASH YOUR FACE
Washing your face is something that will really wake you up for good.
and make you feel energized, ready to start your day off right.
Staying sleepy with one eye open and one eye closed is NOT how you start a productive day and get shit done!
4. MAKE BREAKFAST & FILL IN YOUR JOURNAL
The first thing you need to do when you’re done washing your face is heading to the kitchen and make yourself a nice, healthy breakfast. Once it’s ready, sit down and fill in your journal (if you have one) as you’re eating your breakfast. This is probably my favorite part of this morning routine!
How do you get into journaling?
You can either get the original Five Minute Journal, or you can get a notebook you like and write down your daily gratitude in a notebook you like.
I’m using this notebook and I love it! Every morning I write down the exact same thing I would in the Five Minute Journal
(What I’m grateful for, what would make today great, & daily affirmations)
plus a couple of other things that make me feel good and motivate me like a quote, or something that reminds me of a nice project I have in mind. It’s totally up to you!
5. 15 MINUTES OF YOGA (OR ANY TYPE OF WORKOUT)
I’m not a huge fan of intensive workouts as soon as I wake up (nor ever, actually), but I know how beneficial morning workouts are when it comes to feeling good and be productive. So I found an alternative: Yoga.
I love Yoga because it just doesn’t feel as aggressive as a full session of cardio (for example). I still feel the benefits of moving my body, but without violence, and this is all I want!
When it comes to yoga, I swear by Adriene’s channel. She literally has TONS of yoga videos, and you will surely find something for yourself.
whether you are a beginner or more experienced in that field.
If you like a good old fashioned cardio or abs workout better, then do that!
What matters here is to get your body moving.
6. TAKE SOME TIME TO VISUALIZE YOUR SUCCESS
Visualization is a powerful way to feel motivated and reach your goals.
Visualizing something has been proven to affect the mind in the same way as to actually do the thing you’re visualizing. It also encourages your subconscious to push you towards your goals the rest of the day without you even trying.
So take a few minutes every morning after your workout session to visualize where you want to be in 5 years. Or how successful your next business meeting is going to be.

7. GET READY
It’s now time to shower, get dressed, and do your hair and makeup (if you wear any)! Even if you’re not planning on going out that day. getting dressed will put you in the right mood to accomplish every task on your to-do list.
Once again, it’s a matter of setting your mood to be productive. Staying in your Pjs is only going to make you want to procrastinate on the couch!
8. START CHECKING ITEMS OFF YOUR TO DO LIST!
You’re now ready, dressed, and in the right mood to conquer the world. All you have to do now, is to get shit done.
So put on some gangsta rap girl, and handle it!
keep in mind that this routine is meant to be adapted to you, your personality, and your envies.
Do you want to add a step to this routine? Do it! Whether it is reading, walking your dog, cleaning your room, … Anything that is necessary/beneficial to you and to your mood belongs on this routine.
Make this routine, your routine.
